Two seminars were organized by the University of Tubingen and the Oxford Department of International Development (University of Oxford) on June 6 and June 9, respectively, on the contributions of Vakkom Moulavi and the celebrated newspaper Svadesabhimani which he launched.
These events were important milestones in raising his profile amongst international researchers and bringing his work to the attention of the public across India, Europe and the United States. The seminars created interest in doing further research on Vakkom Moulavi and this important period of Kerala’s history, as well as about their contemporary relevance.
VMFT is grateful to all those who have helped over the years, with collecting and preserving the works of Vakkom Moulavi, digitizing and translating the Svadesabhimani, and contacting universities and research institutions. We thank all those who participated in the events as well as our office staff for organizing publicity.
For the rest of this year, VMFT will continue to organize and support other seminars and lectures, as well as publications. A series of quiz competitions for high school students on the Kerala Renaissance and workshops on documentary film making focusing on the theme of social justice are also being organized. We request those who are interested in participating or contributing to this work to contact us.
