Strategic Pillars of Progress
Our mission is driven by four key strategic areas designed to foster inclusive development and educational transformation in Kerala and beyond:
Inclusive Governance and Women’s Leadership: Empowering the next generation of female leaders.
Education for the Future: Conducting cutting-edge research and policy reform to shape modern schooling.
Science and Technology for Social Transformation: Bringing digital literacy and climate science to the heart of the community.
Preserving Intellectual Heritage: Honoring the legacy of Vakkom Moulavi and Kerala’s reformist history.
High-Impact Achievements
Global Intellectual Leadership
The historic international seminar, “Tradition, Dialogue and Dissent in the Princely States,” positioned Vakkom Moulavi and Kerala at the center of global academic discourse. Featuring scholars from world-renowned institutions like the University of Pennsylvania, Oxford, and Edinburgh, the event explored Kerala’s plural traditions and progressive identity.
Transforming Education
VMFT published the landmark research report, “Separate and Unequal?”, which analyzed Kerala’s school system alongside comparative lessons from Finland. To further practical change, the Trust:
Sponsored Teachers: Facilitated the first Indian teacher delegation to the UNESCO STEM education conference in China.
Climate Action: Partnered with FLAME University to train teachers from all 14 districts on embedding climate science in daily subjects.
Empowering Communities
EmpowerHer: This flagship leadership program equipped young women from disadvantaged backgrounds with professional skills, critical thinking, and the confidence to enter the workforce
Digital Literacy: Tailored workshops in Trivandrum and Palakkad provided coastal women and farmers with essential tools for crop diagnostics, financial safety, and marketing.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to digitize the original works of Vakkom Moulavi for public access, VMFT remains committed to being a catalyst for impactful change. With a strengthened governance structure and expanding international partnerships, we aim to sustain Kerala’s role as a beacon of progressive thought.
